David Toups focuses his practice in probate and business litigation with an emphasis on breach of trust or fiduciary litigation. He also advises and counsels individuals, financial service firms, and financial service professionals regarding financial planning and litigation matters. David's experience spans over 17 years in the financial services industry.
Prior to founding his own firm, David practiced complex commercial, estate, trust, probate, and guardianship litigation in Houston, Texas. Before becoming an attorney, David consulted on and managed estate, trust, and retirement portfolios for the South Central Texas region for a national bank trust department. While serving in this capacity, he chaired the review committee charged with evaluating and approving mutual fund holdings for Texas discretionary accounts. During his career, David has been a registered investment advisor, a registered representative for two national brokerage firms, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
David holds the professional designations of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA); Certified Financial Planner (CFP); and Certified Trust & Financial Advisor (CTFA). He is also an honor graduate of Cannon Financial Institute's Trust School.
David received his undergraduate degree in business from Texas A&M University. He received his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Sam Houston State University, where he was inducted as a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society.
David graduated with honors from South Texas College of Law in Houston, where he represented South Texas as a varsity trial advocate, was a member of Phi Delta Phi, and received the Order of the Lytae. While at South Texas, he interned for both the Court of Appeals for the First Supreme Judicial District of Texas and the First Statutory Probate Court of Harris County.
David is a member of the Real Property, Trust & Probate and Litigation Practice Sections of both the American and Texas Bar Associations; and the Association for Investment Management & Research.
David has been married 14 years and is the father of a 13-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter.
